Doge Helps Olympians Travel To SochiNot only is this new Crypto-currency В set to go the moon, the founders and supporters of Doge have helped make 2014 winter Olympic В dreams come true. Helped Fund Travel For Jamaican Bobsleigh TeamFor Winston Watt and Marvin Dixon, it was news that hadn’t been heard since 2002. Their bobsled team qualified to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics, being held in Sochi, Russia! But qualifying to compete in the Winter Olympics was only half of the battle. The pair had already spent $40,000 for training and didn’t have enough money to pay for expenses to travel 6,600 miles from their tropical island home to the Nordic region of Sochi. Liam Butler, who helps run theВ Dogecoin foundation, heard of the bobsledders plight in January. He wasted no time and launched a Dogecoin fundraising campaign to help the two Jamaicans get to their Olympic destination. After only a few hours, his drive raised the money that Watt and Dixon needed to complete their travels – and hopefully win the Gold medal – in their sport. All told, Butler and the support of the Doge community – collected over $32,000 which far surpassed the original goal. Any additional funds contributed to the cause have been to a general fund. Dogecoin Fundraiser Assists Indian Athlete Make It To SochiWinston Watt and Marvin Dixon weren’t the only ones that are benefiting В from Dogecoin fundraising efforts. Shiva Keshavan, was able to secure over $6,000 in Dogecoin donations to help him cover В travel related expenses to Sochi. A single anonymous contributor gaveВ 3,000,000 Dogecoins (over $4,300 USD) to the cause alone. By securing the necessary funds to travel, he’ll compete in the luge. Due to prior violationsВ of International Olympic Committee (IOC)В charter, he won’t be allowed to carry his country’s flag or wear his country insignia. If he secures a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal in the luge, the National Anthem for India won’t be played during the medal ceremonies.
