New Technologies for Home Security
New Technologies for Home SecurityWith technology constantly changing around us, it won’t surprise you that there is new technology making its way into home security. Sci-Fi movies are finally becoming a reality in our day to day lives. From smart tech to complex sensors, all of these are making their way into our homes to keep us one step ahead of potential break-ins. These are several tools that can help combat, and potentially defeat, a lock pick dead in it’s tracks. Keeping an eye out with Remote MonitoringWith remote monitoring you will be able to keep an eye on your home when you are away at work or school. It doesn’t matter where you are, you just need a connection to the Internet and you will be able to view your home in real-time. These systems are also becoming capable of sending fire or intrusion alerts, streaming camera feeds, and managing your security systems while away. Combining a remote monitoring system and other systems such as smart locks and home sensors all tie in nicely in keeping your home safe when you are away or are at home sleeping. Smart LocksLocks capable of interacting with your smartphone can automatically unlock when you are nearby using Bluetooth. These systems can also be connected to other systems in your home so the lights turn on when you get home or the thermostat changes when you get home from work. While Bluetooth is something we have all heard of, Wi-Fi locks have a lot more features that make them worth your while. Wi-Fi locks are capable of knowing when a door is locked or unlocked in real-time. It should be noted that Wi-Fi systems are more vulnerable to online breaches compared to a Bluetooth system. Sensors at HomeThere are many sensors made for your home that can open a door or window automatically. Simply by programming a certain action such as a wink or wave, you will be able to open the door. Like all of the new security systems this can be controlled from your smartphone or tablet with ease. There are also sensor systems that are capable of identifying if something is moving in a hallway or room in your home. It will then send an alert to your phone via text or email to let you know that an intruder has broken into your home. To top this off some sensors are capable or alerting the intruder with sirens and visual/audio warnings. Smart Garage SystemsWe’ve all heard of a garage door opener. You drive home and click the button which signals the garage to open. Well now you have the ability to sync the garage door through your home router and then use your smartphone to open and close the door. There are many apps available on the iOS or Android app stores so you can set the system up. With this system only your connection will be able to open the garage door. You don’t need to be concerned that an unknown person could just open your garage door. Since you only need your smartphone to open the door (Which everyone carries 24/7 with them) you don’t need a key or separate button to open the door. Some of these systems are also capable of keeping track of how long the garage door has been open as well as having motion sensors that know when something is in the way of the garage door when it is closing. Scanners for FingerprintsNow using your fingerprint to access your home is something you would think would be only in a Sci-Fi movie but believe it or not, it is becoming a reality. All you need is a smartphone and the lock itself and you will be able to access your home by using your fingerprint. Once you input your fingerprint into the system all you need to do is come home, press your finger onto the door handle, and the door will unlock. It really is a simple as that! No one else will be able to use it either because it is coded to only your fingerprint and no one else’s. If you have other people in the house, they can input their fingerprints as well so everyone that lives there will have this access. Advanced CamerasEverything is becoming “smart tech” since you are able to connect these systems to your smartphone or tablet offering ease of use. Home security cameras for one are becoming more affordable for the typical family and are very straightforward to install. You can have a new camera set up and connected to your smartphone without much complication. How the camera works is it creates a Wi-Fi connection that can stream live feeds of what the camera is seeing. This can be streamed straight to your smartphone so you can watch the camera when you are lying in bed. These feeds can also be saved for later viewing by being sent to the cloud. Once there you can view them later if you wanted to. Home Automation SecurityThis new system for your home is becoming popular for those that want to incorporate automation into their home. These complex systems are capable of controlling the locks, security cameras, lights, and more just from your smartphone or tablet. With this type of system you don’t have to be home to use it either. Having all of this control at your fingertips offers a lot more control for you and thus more control over the security of your home. You will always be able to keep track of your locks and know when a light is on or off in your home. Imagine being able to remotely unlock your front door so a guest can enter. That’s no longer a dread; but a reality. With many of these locks traditional lock picking is not possible as there aren’t any key ways to pick. The only way to break the security? Forced entry. These new technologies are becoming the norm for many homes across the nation. With technology always improving, it won’t be long until you see these systems in every home. It will definitely become much tougher for break-ins to occur in the near future.
