TakeiCoin, the Crypto Currency that Auto Donates to Charity
TakeiCoin, the Crypto Currency that Auto Donates to CharityTakeiCoin is absolutely amazing. A percentage of all coins mined go directly towards charity, the founders have already made a successful coin, and it’s based on celebrity and internet meme legend George Takei! The only problem? George Takei has apparently never heard of the coin. When I reached out to George Takei, this is the response I got from his husband Brad:George is not involved in this, he knows nothing about it. To be clear, the TakeiCoin team has proved to me that they are actively making strong efforts to get in contact with George Takei and his team. They were previously under the impression that they were in contact with him but it turned out their connection was not being completely honest and had not made contact yet. The Takei team has a shot at making a great coin, but they are going to have to build a stronger relationship with George Takei to really take this mainstream. If he decides to come on board, this could be the most powerful spokesperson a coin has ever had. If we hear anything new from George or his team, we will quickly update this article. В I sat down with the team behind TakeiCoin, and this is what they had to say:Matt Schlicht: How did the idea for TakeiCoin come about? Jordan Schneider: Myself, my wife, and cofounder Michael Sereo were out for brunch one Sunday morning when he mentioned Bitcoin. You see, Mike is the Vice President of Quontic bank here in New York City and his CEO had been interested in incorporating it into their systems somehow. At the time I was positioned as head of marketing for Worldcoin and together, with his connections in banking, politics and civic organizations, I thought hmm we can do something with thisв. Why make a coin based on George Takei? Does he know about the coin? After our brunch I went home and brainstormed a bit. There were already a lot of coins out there, namely meme coins, that grabbed recognition right off the bat. On the other end there are these more technicalв coins that gain fame through advancing the technology forward. Immediately I knew we had to play to our advantages. We are businessmen, we are marketers, we are media people and we have incredible outlets for which to spread our word. There were already coins that settled on trying to launch donations once in a while but I do not believe any coin had truly done massive fundraising correctly. Doge is really the best example but again but that’s not really what the foundation is based on. No one had set out to make fundraising the primary target and even more specifically no one had done so in an effort to help the fight for human rights. Michael was already involved in a great deal of civic and funding organizations and I decided this would be the best route to take. Coming to this conclusion left absolutely no doubt in my mind what the face of the coin had to be. No man in the world personifies the coming together of activism, equality and online presence quite like George Takei. He’s an internet legend, a living meme, and someone who never backs down from a fight to make the world a better place. He uses his social media outlets to educate and bring a massive community together, all under the guise of comedy. He is everything we wanted our coin to be, thus we immediately reached out to him. With that said we can say that yes Mr. Takei is completely aware of our existence, in fact we went through his lawyers and management team to get where we are today. While he has not outright endorsed us we do believe this will come sometime in the very near future, perhaps after our upcoming press release. You were previously working on the Worldcoin foundation; why have you switched to TakeiCoin? Worldcoin was a great thing for me. It got me very involved in Cryptocurrencies, morphing me from an investor to a true supporter, and allowed me to gain some great experience in the realm of it all. I joined the Worldcoin Foundation in December 2013 and quit in the beginning of February 2014. While I appreciate every single second I spent with WDC there was a lot of bureaucracy that slowed down the processes behind the scenes. All activity and movement forward took much too long, and little by little it frustrated me. Then, the more obvious issue at the time, Scharmbeck, became a bigger problem in the life of Worldcoin. This project, which was meant to be Worldcoin’s answer to Coinbase, was seeing some inner turmoil. While not involved in Scharmbeck, I was not ok with putting the future of a coin, and my invested time and money, into the hands of something without transparency. I knew if I ventured out on my own I would be able to rectify these issues that I saw and turn it into a much more perfected business model for which to release a coin into this world. What makes TakeiCoin unique? TakeiCoin’s uniqueness is twofold. For one we’ve built the system based on automatic donations, from the ground up. Every single part of our service will continue to feed funds into our monthly donation wallet, growing over time and progressively helping more and more people. This donation will be voted on by the community from a wide array of human rights groups and organizations. All mining pools must pay a small fee to be sponsored, all games will use donations instead of losses, the online wallet will be non-profit but also incur a miniscule fee for funding. Every single thing we do will follow in this footstep. Non-profit, making only enough to keep the services going, while the rest gets pushed to organizations that need it. Secondly TAK will be the first coin endorsed by a person of major global importance (Ok maybe Max Keiser counts too) and already has more media connections than any other altcoin, falling second only to Bitcoin. Now I know you’re thinking But he said George Takei hasn’t endorsed it yetв. Well that is true, but that’s not the celebrity I’m talking about. We have someone who has made a huge difference in the world, playing one of the most important roles in human rights in the past century. Furthermore it’s a person very close to Mr. Takei’s heart, someone who we believe will solidify our relationship with him and bring us to the forefront of being a media powerhouse amongst the coins. Where do you see TakeiCoin in the next six months? All cryptocurrency regulation and global rulings aside, I see TakeiCoin pushing to the forefront of the altcoins. I think I am comfortable to say I believe we will be within the top 10 within this time period (my list doesn’t include Ripple, we all know it doesn’t belong there! ). I don’t see us knocking Bitcoin off its throne, in fact I don’t see any coin doing so in the current space. I could feasibly see us making our way into the upper tier of coins and being recognized as a piece of this cryptocurrency history that really made a difference. How are you ensuring adoption of TakeiCoin? What marketing campaigns and integrations with pools and exchanges do you have planned? Our major marketing focus right now is lining up all our media connections and celebrity backings. We have access to major news sources, including the Huffington Post, that we intend to use. We believe global adoption, at this point in time, comes from widespread knowledge and understanding, not necessarily the technicalities behind the engineering of the coin itself. We are focusing on pushing towards more real world presence. In fact, one major part of this operation will include a table at the NYC convention in April, a booth at Comic Con 2014 in October here in NYC, and perhaps the LGBT convention in March if we can get all our ducks in a row by that time. As for exchanges we do already have word from Cryptsy that we can be added once Mr. Takei confirms his endorsement. Again something we expect in the very near future. We are currently listed on five exchanges and we see more and more expressing interest each day. How large is the TakeiCoin community? Currently the TAK community is small yet ever-growing. Seeing as how we’re only 2 weeks old we’re extremely happy with our current twitter presence as well as our 4000+ unique website visitors in the same timeframe. I would say our IRC and twitter will be our focus for communication and highly recommend anyone interested in getting involved contact us in either of these ways. What are your thoughts on Dogecoin? I think Dogecoin is incredible. Anyone who complains about its success is merely not understanding what the true driving force of success really is. It reminds me of Domino’s Pizza. Domino’s sucks. We all know it sucks. It’s not nearly as good as any local pizza place that you can find, yet, no one in their right mind can say that Domino’s has not been successful. It has marketing down to a science and created a name for itself using its strength, widespread adoption and expansion. Doge doesn’t need to be better than Quark, Vertcoin, or any other coin with technical advances. Doge has community, it has involvement and it has a special niche that people want to be a part of. In my opinion anyone who dismisses Doge is blind to what it has done for Cryptocurrencies. Doge is brilliant in its simplicity and I hope it keeps growing and growing. I am 100% a supporter and you know what, that Shiba-Inu in that picture is damn adorable. How do I get a TakeiCoin? Head on over to takeicoin. orgВ and pick up one of the wallets. You can mine this SHA256 coin at either CryptoPools or MineBig. We’re currently listed on five exchanges where you can pick up TAK. These exchanges include xnigma, CryptoRush, and Mintpal. If you’re interested in some free TAK we have a great 5 per day faucet here DenCoinPools and we constantly do giveaways on the bitcointalk and cryptocointalk forums, Twitter and Facebook.
